JUNKO ISHIBASHI

Junko is a California-licensed attorney and a certified Gyoseishoshi (like a solicitor) in Japan, focusing on entertainment and media law, intellectual property, employment matters, corporate governance, immigration, and trusts & estates in cross-border contexts.
For over a decade, she has advised entertainment industries, IT companies, and creators on contract strategy—drafting, reviewing, negotiating, and managing disputes—drawing on her background as both in-house counsel and an outside legal counsel. Her practice bridges U.S. and Japanese business cultures, particularly where creative industries meet technology and labor issues.
Earlier in her career, she co-founded Contra Inc., a consulting firm for entertainment content including animation, where she handled business development, project planning, system management, and legal advisory work. Before entering the legal field, she spent more than 15 years in the music, film, advertising, and gaming industries in Japan with roles at Pony Canyon, Hakuhodo-related agencies, and global IT companies including Thomson Reuters and Oracle.
Junko earned an LL.M. in Intellectual Property from Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, completed the Entertainment Marketing Program at New York University, and the U.S. Law Program at Temple University, Japan Campus.
Outside her practice, she is an enthusiastic fan of rugby and Korean & U.S. dramas, and enjoys sailing, golf, skiing, and playing the piano and flute.

Have expertise on general Corporate & Commercial legal counseling (e.g., transnational and commercial legal counseling, contract drafting & negotiating, compliance, government relations, dispute management), and Entertainment law (e.g., production, marketing and promotion, licensing and monetizing) and Intellectual property, accumulated through more than 15-year experience of in-house roles with US-headquartered entertainment companies as well as 4-year experience in private practice, with emphasis on strategically counseling the senior management team & business leaders as well as the US headquarter in balance with the Japanese trade customs.
